The Stillwater Public Library does not refer or recommend caterers.

This list is intended to assist renters in finding appropriately licensed vendors. Confirm that your
food vendors are licensed to cater in Minnesota.   To provide liquor at Stillwater Public
Library, caterers must have a current Caterer’s Liquor License (CATR). Neither licensed
bartenders nor On Sale (on-site) liquor licenses are adequate substitutes for a CATR.

Stillwater Public Library Catering Guidelines

1. All food deliveries should arrive at our 4th
Street catering entrance on the north side of the
building. Our address for deliveries is 223 4th
Street North, Stillwater, MN 55082. Please call
Anne Young, the event coordinator, before arriving on site if you have any questions about how to
load-in for the event at 651-233-7124. We are bordered by a bed & breakfast and residential
apartment complex. Please respect our neighbor’s requests for quiet and access to their parking
spaces.

2. All catering vehicles must be parked in a designated parking spot, or single parked along the
catering ramp. All vehicles must remain clear of the left-hand side (north) of the driveway/fire
lane. The fire lane must remain clear AT ALL TIMES.

3. The Health Department requires that all caterers be licensed. We maintain a list of licensed
caterers who have been approved by the Library Board for events at the library.

4. Food must arrive hot and be served hot, or arrive cold and be served cold. The library has a
refrigerator and a warming oven for use by licensed caterers. The warming oven heats to 190,
and requires sixty (60) minutes to pre-heat.

5. The Department of Health does not allow food preparation on site. Absolutely no portable ovens,
grills or stoves may be brought into the Library or used in the catering kitchen.

6. The caterer is responsible for cleaning and removing ALL food-related garbage from the Library.
If for some reason, the caterer cannot perform this task, it is the duty of the caterer to inform the
rental client. The rental client will be charged for any garbage, food waste or trash removed by
SPL staff.

7. The kitchen should be cleaned, mopped and all countertops sanitized by the end of the rental
period. All garbage must be removed via the Caterer’s Ramp and taken to the dumpster in the
garbage enclosure. Please follow our recycling policy. Do not put the garbage into the recycling
containers. Renters will be charged for an additional hour of rental time if ANY garbage is left on
library property or placed in the incorrect bin.

8. All catering staff and vehicles must vacate library property by midnight. If clean-up is not
complete by midnight, the rental client will be charged for additional time, and the event
coordinator will make arrangements for clean-up to conclude the following morning.

9. For the protection of our facility, we require the following precautions:
When carving meat in the carpeted areas, the floors need to be well protected.
   No artificial colors may be used in punches.
When using a chocolate fountain ensure the floors and walls are protected from splatters.
Ice sculptures are discouraged. If used, floors must be protected.
Bars are restricted to un-carpeted areas of the library.

10. The caterer’s ramp may be used be used for loading and unloading equipment until 10:00 p.m.
After 10:00 p.m. the 3rd
Street ramp must be used. If your catering vehicle does not fit into the
ramp (8’ clearance) please contact our event coordinator to make alternate arrangements.
11. After 10:00 p.m., all caterer’s are asked to do the following:
Hand carry as many items as possible, to prevent carts from rattling on our cobblestone
pavers
Refrain from personal conversations, shouting, and frequent trips in and out of the building.
Keep the door at the top of the caterer’s ramp closed when not in use to contain noise from
the event.

12. The Library has a strict facility rental alcohol policy. The renter will be charged an additional
$175.00 for serving alcohol at their event. All alcohol must be served by caterer with a Caterer’s
Liquor License. No wine or champagne bottles are allowed on tables, nor is self-service of any
kind.

13. Catering staff is required to abide by the Library’s Noise Policy.

Stillwater Public Library can provide for weddings and events. Please make sure to inform your
client of your furniture needs.

Having been a student,as well as an employee, and most recently, a student again, I have spent manyhours within the library walls. Whether it be just another late night doinghomework, checking out a book, or simply just stopping by to talk to thelibrarians, the library has become much like a second home for me. In fact, Ithink there are even some people who would consider it to be my first. Aftermany nights having been kicked out by the flashing light just before closingtime, I have gotten to know this place very well. With librarians who are nevershy to lend a helping hand, which is always welcome with the increasing demandsfor APA writing, the library has become not only a place for learning, but alsoa place to find a friend. Even greater than the many resources offered by thelibrary, are the great people here who really make this facility into what ithas become. Thank you to everyone here as I am honored to be the 2011, OctoberLibrary User of the Month.

Library Services now subscribes to the Films on Demand database. With Films on Demand, students, staff, and faculty have instant access to thousands of full-length, high-quality educational videos.

Films produced by organizations such as BBC, History Channel, and PBS are available in dozens of subject areas. Users can also organize & bookmark clips, and create & share playlists.

This database can be accessed on campus or from home. Film titles have been added to the library’s catalogue as well and can be identified by the [electronic resource (video)] notation in the item title. Simply click on the Available Online link in the catalogue record to access the film.

Those who prefer to browse can access Films on Demand via Library Services’ databases page. Simply click the Advanced Article Search link on the main library page, choose General/Multidisciplinary from thesubject areas list, and then click Connectnext to the entry for Films on Demand. Ifyou are accessing the database from home, you will be prompted for your Studentor Staff/Faculty ID number.

Eight More Computers in the Vera Bracken Library

Wikipedia has just turned ten this year. Library Services co-sponsored and participated an interesting panel discussion to explore the past, present, and future of Wikipedia.

Our guest speaker, Sarah Polkinghorne, public services librarian from the University of Alberta, gave an informative presentation to answer some of the foundational questions about Wikipedia: what is Wikipedia really? How does it work exactly? Who created it and who uses it? Where is it headed? It is interesting for the participants to get to know that 90% of the Wikipedia contributors are male and there are so called five "pillars" that summarize the fundamental principles by which Wikipedia operates.

The panel and participants further explored issues such as: potential classroom uses for Wikipedia; the changing face of "peer reviewers"; individual versus collaborative intellectual property; critical thinking in the age of Web 2.0; quality research and non-print literacy; writing for Wikipedia as scholarly activity.

The panel members created a wiki page that lists some inspiring articles about Wikipedia. It can be accessed @ http://wiki-panel.wikispaces.com/ The wiki-panel wiki page can also be a perfect spot to carry out some further discussions on Wikipedia.

Digital Books and Geekapalooza 4.0

Library Services participated in Geekapalooza 4.0, the annual event for college faculty and staff. Leigh Cunningham, Collections and Instruction Librarian, presented a session, How to Read an eBook, which provided an overview of the various types of eBooks and eReaders available today as well as issues to consider as the market matures. Various online sources for acquiring eBooks were also demonstrated, including Project Gutenberg, Google eBookstore, Medicine Hat Public Library’s Library To Go System, and the MHC libraries’ ebrary online resource.

Leigh Cunningham is holding one of the library's Kobo touch screen readers.

The Medicine Hat College Libraries provide access to more than 15,000 eBooks that can be read online on a computer, laptop, or mobile device with an internet connection. Search for eBooks through the Library Catalogue.

Five Kobo eReaders, including two new touch screen models, are available for 2 week loan periods from the library. Geekapalooza attendees had a chance to test drive the eReaders and engage in some great discussion about the potential of the technology. Thanks to those that participated; see you next year!

New Networked Colour Printer Now Available

In the past, we handled colour printing jobs manually by the Information Desk staff in the library – meaning students had to bring their files to the staff; staff printed the document and handed it back to students, with cash involved. It is not the case anymore! Library Services just added a networked colour printer that student can manage all their printing jobs, either black/white or colour, straight from the desktop that he/she is working on and from one consolidated printing account.

The newly added colour printer and the existing black/white printer are located side by side right outside the library computer lab. The charges for the printings are as follows:

Black/White: 5 cents per page
Colour: 50 cents per page

Make sure to select the right printer for your job as it determines the charges that are put through your printing account.

It is always a good idea to check the balance and how much the printing is going to cost before sending your job. Here is the last dialog window you will see during the process that shows the information (in this case, we don’t have enough balance in the printing account therefore the printing job will never reach the printer! – time to talk to our circulation desk staff to add some more money!)

The guides that have been updated are the APA Style Guide and the To Quote, Paraphrase or Block Quote? – APA Style. Both of these guides cover the sixth edition version of the citation style. Additionally, the What is Plagiarism? handout has also been revised.

Save Your Borrowing History!

By default, Library Services does not track your borrowing history (i.e., once returned, we do not know what books, periodicals, videos, etc. you borrowed).

If you want to track your personal borrowing history, you need to log-in to your library account and opt in to that feature. Library Services staff do not have access to your borrowing history if you elect to track it—assuring your privacy.

To opt in, follow these directions:

STEP 1: Log in to your library account (see Figure 1). You can log-in from the Library Services homepage or the online catalogue.

STEP 2: Select "Reading History" from the left-hand column (see Figure 2).

STEP 3: Select the "Opt In" button. It will then switch to "Opt Out" (see Figure 3). NOTE: Your record will start to build/retain your checkout history when you next borrow an item.

When you next log-in to your library account and select the "Reading History" option, your borrowing history will be displayed (see Figure 4). NOTE: You can opt out to stop the tracking history or delete selected records.

ich habe sie gerne angesehen - ich habe sie lange angesehen.
sie sah aus wie pure weiblichkeit für mich aussieht - nicht die mütterliche, erdige, nicht madonna sondern feminin.

knielange röcke, die betonung der taille - sanduhr. kommen mit der mode der fünfziger und frühen sechziger jahre auch wieder die alten werte zurück? feministinnen beklagen sich über die eingeschränkte beweglichkeit der frauen die durch am rücken zu knöpfender kleider und blusen so hilflos sind, dass sie hilfe beim ankleiden benötigen. die in ihren taillierten, hautengen röcken im sitzen schlecht atmen können, deren beine nicht viel raum zur bewegung haben. machen sich frauen damit zum schmuckstück? und wieso ist es so wichtig sich eindeutig als weiblich oder männlich zu identifizieren? wieso schafft die gesellschaft, die kultur, wieso schaffen wir so klare grenzen? wieso darf es nicht fließend sein und wieso haben wir ein problem mit allem dazwischen?
ich weiß nicht in wiefern ich mir meine weiblichkeit ausgesucht habe. ich weiß nur, dass mir feminine frauen, die ihre weiblichkeit als das natürlichste auf der welt ausleben sympathisch sind. frauen die offen sind, die stark und zerbrechlich sind. die nicht immer kämpfen wollen aber können, wenn es denn sein muss. die nicht weglaufen sondern ihren standpunkt vertreten.
aber können sie das in high heels und bleistiftröcken? können das die blassen, rotlippigen wesen mit dem perfekt in wellen gelegten haar? ist das alles ein wiederspruch oder ist es das natürlichste auf der welt?
wo liegt der unterschied zu engen tops und hüftig sitzenden röhrenjeans?
ist es nicht einfach eine frage der klasse? des chics?
was ist falsch daran seine weiblichkeit auszuleben? ist die kraft des femininen so stark, dass sie von der umwelt, auf grund ihrer scheinbaren bedrohlichkeit, immer gleich als sexuell wahrgenommen wird?
werden denn betont maskuline männer in maßgeschneiderten anzügen als sexuelles objekt wahrgenommen? nein, man sieht sie als stark, dominant, als mächtig und wichtig in der gesellschaft.
was kann die ebenbürtige frau also tun um nicht als ewige metress ihrer gegengeschlechtlichen (geschäfts)partner gesehen zu werden?
muss man seinen köprer in boyfriend jeans, anzughosen und lockeren hemden verhüllen um nicht sexuell sondern intellektuell wahrgenommen zu werden? kann man doch nur seine weibliche macht nutzen? muss man sich darauf einlassen um überhaupt etwas zu erreichen oder darf man nicht einfach nur sein, jeder wie er will - auch in hüftigen röhrenjeans und engen jersey tops, wenn es man selbst ist - was ja ein paradoxon ist, bedenkt man, das es sich nur um uniformierung handelt.
können wir uns entuniformieren oder ist auch die individualität nur eine uniform (der masse der randgruppierung(en)?

(jeden tag aufs neue entschieden dürfen, auf was man heute lust hat)

Library Services has added two new databases to its collection of resources. The new databases are EBSCO's Computers and Applied Sciences Complete and the Points of View Reference Center.

COMPUTERS AND APPLIED SCIENCES COMPLETE

This database provides the latest information on research and development in computer sciences and related disciplines. It will not only provide insight into the latest technologies, but also the business and social implications of those technologies.

It has nearly 2,200 periodicals are indexed and full-text is provided for more than 1,000 titles. Coverage for each title will vary, but some full-text and indexing is as early as 1970. Click here to view the database's holdings.

August Hours: Closures & Holidays

For the month of August, the Vera Bracken Library will be closed on the following days:

Monday, August 1st – Heritage Day
Wednesday, August 24th – College Day

The Brooks Campus Library will not be affected by the College Day closure, but will be closed on Monday, August 1st for Heritage Day.
