APA Handouts Revised

Library Services has revised two of its American Psychological Association (APA) citation guides. The guides that have been updated are the APA Style Guide and the To Quote, Paraphrase or Block Quote? – APA Style. Both of these guides cover the sixth edition version of the citation style. Additionally, the What is Plagiarism? handout has also been revised.

APA STYLE GUIDE [PDF/DOCX versions]

The 12 page format has been retained, but some new examples of citations have been supplied—not all of which are in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition). Some of new and revised examples include:

• notes on Canadian legal documents
• dictionary entries
• basic web pages
• Facebook posts
• Twitter posts

TO QUOTE, PARAPHRASE OR BLOCK QUOTE? – APA STYLE [PDF/DOCX versions]

The document is largely unchanged, but the language/phrasing employed in the examples has been modified to be more consistent.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? [PDF/DOCX versions]

Though it is not strictly related to the APA style of citation, our What is Plagiarism? document is a complement to the aforementioned guides that not only outlines what constitutes plagiarism, but the consequences of doing so at Medicine Hat College.

MLA Guides Updated

In April, the Modern Language Association of America (MLA) released the 7^th edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (MLA Handbook). The MLA style of citation is a popular citation method used for writing essays in the humanities throughout North America. For a quick overview of the changes made in the 7^th edition, click here.

Library Services has updated it handouts regarding the MLA style to keep abreast of these changes. The handouts that have been updated include:

The former two will soon be available in print in the library. The 6^th edition of the MLA Style Guide will remain online until December 2009, but the print edition will no longer be available from the library.

PowerPoint 2003 Handout Revised

The PowerPoint 2003 Basics handout has undergone a dramatic revision and is available for download. This handout and many other documents can be found on the library's How to Guides page. Print copies will be available in the library shortly.
