For the past six years the library staff have invited faculty, staff, and students to identify their favourite books so that they may be used to decorate the tree. For just a $2.00 donation per title—with proceeds going to the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund—a small facsimile of the book cover is hung on the tree with the person’s name on the back of the cover. Titles that are recommended, but not yet in our collection, will also be considered for acquisition.
It is fun to see the variety of titles that have been submitted—so come and join in or just come to see what others are reading.
Some of the titles that have been received for this year include (linked titles are currently in our collection):
- Airs Above the Ground by Mary Stewart
- All Families are Psychotic by Douglas Coupland
- Canadians: A Portrait of a Country and Its People by Roy MacGregor
- The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
- The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling
- It by Stephen King
- Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez
- Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
- Souvenir of Canada by Douglas Coupland
- Through the Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden
- Trinity by Leon Uris
- A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink
