Online Services Active

Upgrades to Medicine Hat College Library Services' system have been completed. All online services have returned to normal operation.

If you experience any problems with accessing any of our online services, please call one of our service desks - call (403)529-3867 for the Vera Bracken Library at the Medicine Hat Campus and (403)362-1690 for the Brooks Campus Library.

Thanks to our partners at the University of Lethbridge (who we share an online library catalogue with) for the work they performed to complete the upgrade.

Online Services Disruption - 23 February 2006

Medicine Hat College Library Services will experience a disruption of online services starting at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2006. Normal online operations should resume early in the afternoon. This disruption will include both the Brooks and Medicine Hat campuses.

System upgrades are taking place and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) might not be accessible. This means that you will not be able to search for Library materials online. Other online services such as database authentication (for home users) and Interlibrary Loan Services will also be disrupted.

All other services (Circulation Desk, computers, databases (on campus), Information Desk, and Internet access) will not be disrupted by the system upgrades.

We apologize for the inconvenience. All online services will be back to normal operation early in the afternoon.

For more information, please see the Libraries' Circulation or Information Desks, or phone: 529-3867 in Medicine Hat, 362-1690 in Brooks.

Beach the Blues 2006

February 10th was Medicine Hat College's annual Beach the Blues event. This campus wide celebration is held to boost the morale of faculty, staff, and students who are in the midst of the winter and semester doldrums.

Part of the festivities includes a friendly decorating competition held amongst the various departments on campus. The Library, for the second year in a row, has taken first prize in the competition - though we faced some fierce competition from the College Advancement, Human Resources and Student Services departments. Last year's winning theme was Gilligan's Island, this year it was "all things blue".

Thanks to the Library's Social Committee (Anne, Darlene, Jason, Keith and Reni) for spearheading the decorating and to other staff members that contributed.

New Database: Project MUSE

Library Services has added a new database to its collection.

Project MUSE is a full-text, peer reviewed collection of journals. There are nearly 300 journals available through this resource that cover a wide variety of subject matter - including the arts, humanities, and sciences.

You can find Project MUSE on our site by clicking here.

Currently the database can only be accessed at the Medicine Hat or Brooks campuses, but authentication from home will arrive shortly.

UPDATE: Thanks to our partnership with The Alberta Library (TAL), Project MUSE can now be accessed from home by registered faculty, staff and students of Medicine Hat College Library Services.
